What is Hair Dandruff?
In clinical terms, dandruff is a mild form of Seborrheic Dermatitis, a skin condition that affects the scalp, causing irritation that results in shedding of dead skin cells at faster than usual rate. Dandruff is a very common problem but is yet to be considered a disease. It is more often associated with self confidence and affect a person’s appearance, making him/her feeling uneasy as dandruff tend to drop easily on shoulder and the collar area. Some common causes of dandruff includes stress, food allergies, nutritional deficiencies (B-Complex Vitamins and Omega-3 fatty acids) and usage of hair products and hair coloring/treatment chemical.

What’s on Television Today?
Our local televisions often came out with new and improved Hair Dandruff Treatment shampoo that tries to address this common problem we had. In a bid to vie consumer to purchase their products, you are guranteed to see a 99% visible results with the product’s usage. Reading more in their fine print, you’re subject to a certain period of usage in order to see the “visible” result (sometimes, it is as ridiculous as 90 days). If you’re sufferring from dandruff like I do, you know that they don’t work!

What your Hair Stylist say?
Perhaps this is too common to ask. Your hair stylist will probably introduce you to their range of Dandruff Therapy/Treatments that require the going through of a certain amount of sessions in order to completely eliminate the scalp problem you are facing. Treatment does not comes cheap, at average it will cost you RM50-80 per session depending on which part of the Klang Valley you salon is located. It usually takes about 3 to 5 session for the treatment. Go figure the math yourself on how much you need to come out with? To add on top of that, unless you’re the kind whom do not need to work and have all the time in this world to pamper yourself, each treatment require you to be in the salon (of course, what am I thinking!) and takes about 45 minutes to an hour each. Time is a luxury for me and I can’t afford to spend time as such at this moment.

What’s not on Television?
My personal favourite, Neutrogena T/Gel Therapeutic Shampoo. It’s main active ingredient, coal-tar extract works wonder in eliminating hair dandruff. I personally recommended this product to dozens of friends who had hair dandruff problem. As of today, none of my friends had any complain over it’s effectiveness. The only drawback with this shampoo got to be it’s afterwash medicated fragrant that some find it annoying or unpleasant. However, it does not leave your hair feeling coarse and dry as most of the dandruff medicated shampoo available in the market.

This shampoo worked for me all these time. I still use it periodically whenever my dandruff problem re-occur. For my case, dandruff usually make a comeback whenever I’m stressed out with my work. It’s effectiveness proven on me where I could easily eliminate my dandruff with consecutive usage of Neutrogena T/Gel Therapeutic Shampoo within 3 days. A bottle of the shampoo can last you for a very long period of time; half a year if use only when the problem occurs, as the amount required for short hair is roughly the diameter of a 50 cents coin. For new user, use the shampoo consecutively for 7 days (usually results are visible on the 3rd/4th day) and you will start recommending this product to your friends, just like what I’m doing right now.

For an even better result and a more soothing home treatment experience, get yourself NIOXIN Scalp Therapy conditioner from your local hair salon that gives you the mint cooling sensation which helps to re-energizes your scalp condition, reduce itchiness and promote a healthier scalp development.

Where to Get?
The only place I know of that carry this product is Guardian pharmacy. If you do know of any other place, do write me a comment. The shampoo cost RM31.90, if you’re buying during the sale season, you might be lucky to get a 10% or 20% off the retail price.

Uncommon magic at 17:15 hour: My dandruff problem came back due to work stress and I can’t help but think about the Neutrogena T/Gel Shampoo that I absolutely need to use tonight.
